Mentoring for spin-offs in the energy sector
A research centre needs to mentor different projects to assess whether they will become spin-offs.
Challenge
Different research groups belonging to a foundation have developed technologies that could be transferred to the market as spin-offs. The researchers need to be mentored to have instruments to assess, together with the foundation, the eventual incorporation of a company.
Scientific personnel need to be provided with tools related to business development to complement and refine their value proposition.
Solution
Between 8 and 12 sessions have been agreed upon with each of the groups, and in coordination with the foundation, a homogeneous methodology has been followed to:
Understanding each of the scientific proposals, defining their impact on the value chain, establishing the value proposition and agreeing on the form of transfer to the market via incorporation of a company or licensing a product or service.
Finally, an ad-hoc roadmap has been drawn up.
Result
- The researchers validated the roadmap, defining the most relevant points for transferring the technology to the market and the most appropriate strategy.
- Accompaniment in the creation of a pitch for potential investors.
“Roadmap validated with the researchers […] to transfer the technology to the market”.
