How to improve the application for proof-of-concept grants?
Practical tips to improve the transfer strategy and the application for proof-of-concept grants for the FHIGUV
Challenge
Applying for proof-of-concept grants requires dealing with concepts and rules that are different from research projects. Researchers find that they do not achieve the expected success in financing their transfer projects to the market and the FHIGUV wants to optimize the process of applying for these grants.
Solution
Organize a Workshop adapted to the profile of the institution’s researchers to understand what strategy is necessary to license or create a technology-based company in the health sector. We must define a market and the associated need, what regulation we must take into account, the IP strategy and know the business models of drugs, medical devices and healthcare processes.
On the other hand, it is necessary to understand what basic criteria must be considered in proof-of-concept grants (IVACE+i, DTS of the ISCIII, Caixaimpulse, ERC Proof of Concept, among others) to understand how to structure a report and define a value proposition that allows us to finance our proof of concept.
Result
FIHGUV researchers were able to analyse their past experiences related to knowledge transfer, validate which key aspects they were not taking into account in their knowledge transfer processes and incorporate new ideas on how to more effectively deal with the application for proof-of-concept grants in the health sector and understand the complexity of the different associated business models.
