Transforming Innovation in Biotherapies: Roadmap for Biogran
We identify key therapeutic areas, validate clinical interest, and define the strategy for market entry.
Challenge
The challenge for UAB’s technology was to transform a scientific innovation —secretory granules as a tool for the sustained release of therapeutic proteins— into an attractive proposal for the pharmaceutical industry. In a market dominated by established technologies such as PEGylation and fusion proteins, the challenge was to identify clinical areas with high potential, demonstrate competitive advantages, and define a viable transfer pathway towards industrial partners.
Solution
Arvor carried out a comprehensive analysis of the protein therapy market, evaluating more than one hundred products and ongoing trials. Based on this benchmarking, we identified the therapeutic areas with the greatest fit for UAB’s technology and validated their relevance through expert clinical interviews. With this information, we designed a development and transfer roadmap including regulatory models, licensing options, and potential spin-off creation. In addition, Arvor combined market analysis, pipeline review, and clinical expert consultations. This work allowed prioritization of therapeutic areas with the greatest need and potential, identification of strategic partners, and the design of a value narrative for UAB’s technology.
Result
The result is that UAB now has a more complete strategic vision: it not only knows which therapeutic areas to prioritize for its technology, but also what its competitive advantage is compared to other sustained-release platforms. Thanks to Arvor’s work, the university has clear criteria to position its innovation in a complex and differentiated market, maximizing its transfer opportunities.

“We defined the roadmap to position an innovative sustained-release protein platform in therapeutic areas with high potential and unmet medical needs.”
