Positioning a 3D intestinal replication technology
How should a new technology be positioned in the well-established cell culture market?
Challenge
Gut health research faces significant limitations with traditional models, such as 2D cultures. These models lack the physiological complexity needed to accurately replicate the cellular interactions and functional processes of the human gut. This gap has generated an urgent demand for more advanced and relevant solutions that allow for a better understanding of drug absorption, inflammatory diseases and drug toxicity.
In response, the project developed by the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), explores an innovative technology that seeks to replicate the structure and functionality of the human intestine more precisely and effectively. Our goal is to evaluate how this technology can be integrated into the market and guide its development into a high-value product for the biomedical sector.
Solution
To meet this challenge, a comprehensive market analysis was conducted, evaluating both existing and emerging solutions in the field of advanced cell models for gut research. Thanks to this, it was possible to define a value proposition based on technological advances and diverse applications.
In addition, an implementation plan was defined with key stages for validation and commercialization, including a technical evaluation, standardization and marketing strategies.
Finally, the need for strategic alliances with key industry players to validate technology in real environments was identified.
Result
This strategic approach has made it possible to outline an open and adaptable proposal that responds to the main needs of the market. Key accomplishments include:
· Market validation: The analysis showed a broad interest in more advanced and representative models, positioning IBEC’s technology as a promising option.
· Market entry strategies: An initial offer focused on standardized services that respond to immediate needs was prioritized.
· Future vision: The development plans include continuous evaluation and expansion into other areas of biomedical research, consolidating the growth potential of the project.

“This strategic approach has made it possible to outline an open and adaptable proposal that responds to the main needs of the market. “
